Project Overview

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The project spans 65 acres and includes four major nuclear facilities and supporting facilities.

Job Summary

4D / Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Manager responsible for managing the 4D schedule and AWP program, leading a team of AWP coordinators, and ensuring AWP performance on the project.

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain 4D iModels for high‑level waste planning areas and update weekly.
  • Chair 4D planning area meetings.
  • Provide model views to field engineering, supervision, and subcontracts showing design, material, and installation status for specific commodities.
  • Create discipline‑specific 4D files for scoping installation work packages.
  • Develop Project AWP Execution Plan and Construction Volumes (CV) registers.
  • Lead scoping and sequencing of Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
  • Oversee readiness review process and transition high‑level waste to AWP.
  • Coordinate with field engineering to create installation work packages and update schedules.
  • Conduct visual planning using 4D Synchro and/or 3D modeling software and prepare workface planning storyboards.
  • Validate sequencing aligns with construction execution, testing, and startup priorities.
  • Model scheduled scaffolds and estimate scaffold hours.
  • Mesh 4D (Synchro) and P6 Schedule with SAMS information.
  • Create presentations of high‑level or detailed HLW build‑out for client communication.
  • Integrate project systems to support AWP, setup system mappings, and develop automated data quality checks.
  • Coordinate AWP planning activities with Construction Coordinators and report progress to Project Management.
  • Ensure AWP responsibilities are executed effectively to support overall project goals.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience, or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of construction activities related to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Must pass pre‑employment drug screen, physical (if located at construction site), and background check.
  • Must obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and perform required site activities.

  • Summarize large amounts of project data into concise reports.
  • Interface with personnel of varying backgrounds and skill levels.

  • Understand technical problems, identify root causes, and apply knowledge to develop solutions.
  • Think creatively to resolve challenges and roadblocks.
Construction Execution
  • Strong understanding of construction execution practices, earned value management, BSAPs, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of unit rate development, performance factors, and standard programs (e.g., Smart Completions, Team Works, Synchro 4D).
Leadership
  • Prioritize activities, delegate based on team strengths.
  • Empower team to complete tasks and provide feedback and disciplinary action when necessary.

  • Take ownership of actions and deliverables, managing work through completion.
  • Show dedication and commitment to tasks.
  • Accept responsibility for errors and coach others.
