* The Opportunity:
** Washington State University Tri Cities and
** TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS)
** is now accepting applications for an
** Advisor**. TRIO SSS provides direct support to TRIO participants who are first-generation, limited-income students, and individuals with disabilities. As the TRIO Advisor you will provide personal coaching and academic advising support to student participants. Duties include but not limited to: outreach and retention efforts, development of TRIO programming, serving on committees, creating academic plans, collaborating with career services, financial aid, registration, student activities, and other student services efforts.
As the Advisor, you will help students navigate through their college experience successfully, assessing their academic skills and working with them to determine best possible approaches for academic improvement and development. You will provide resources available on campus and provide referrals when necessary.
** Percentage Breakdown of Duties:
** 55% - Academic Advising & Personal Coaching
20% - Programming
15% - Administration 5% - Recruitment 5% - Other duties as assigned

* In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

* Required Qualifications:
*** Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
* Experience working with students in educational, community, or other developmental settings.
* Willingness and ability to travel overnight and work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, with occasional supervisory responsibility of students.
* Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and experience conducting presentations.
* Experience with Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
* Ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.
* Professional or personal experience working with a diverse group of students and their families such as first-generation students, low-income students, and/or students with disabilities.

* Preferred Qualifications:
*** Master’s degree in related field
* Bilingual: fluent oral and written communication skills in a language other than English.
* Previous work experience at an institution of higher education.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
* Experience working with and maintaining student records
* Experience with Washington State University business policies and procedures and/or federal grant regulations, such as a TRIO program, the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), High School Equivalency Program (HEP), GEAR Up or similar grant programs.
