We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Located at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun per year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and access to large cities within a few hours drive or short flight to Seattle and Portland.
Job SummaryIn this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Essential duties include pipe stress analysis of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code. The stress work involves modeling piping systems to verify piping flexibility, stability, and qualification of equipment nozzle loads.
Part-Time Telework:
This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full-time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
MajorResponsibilities
- Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters for a business line technology, including the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D CAD design models and construction drawings.
- Develops designs for complete and complex PD&P engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
- Assists in constructing detailed scale models.
- Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
- Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.
- Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of a global business unit.
- Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing.
- Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Coordinates and interfaces with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
Level I
- Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Level II
- Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
