General Summary

The Outage Support Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the planning, scheduling, and implementation of all plant outage related activities consistent with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Provide planning, scheduling, and budgeting input in support of all outage activities to ensure defense-in-depth safety is maintained during shutdown outage activities. Monitors the progress of all outages (refueling, forced, maintenance), identifies problems and assists with solutions, revises schedules and budgets, and provides plant management with reports on outage status and progress.

Coordinates work activities with Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Engineering activities during outages. Monitors ALARA programs, assists in preparing outage related documents, assesses the adequacy of planning and scheduling documentation, assesses the adequacy of the shutdown safety plan, and assures all around readiness for outage implementation.

Principal Accountabilities

This position has a direct impact on plant safety, capacity factor, and the cost of power. The Outage Support Coordinator monitors and assists with all activities (duration, cost, manpower, contracts, and scope) associated with outages. Responsible for monitoring outage preparation, implementation/execution of outages, including performance monitoring, cost control, problem resolution, the defense-in-depth shut down safety plan, and the allocation of resources to meet goals.

Duties include:

Long Range Outage Planning
  • Responsible for maintaining an active Long-Range Outage Plan and specific outage backbone schedule(s).
  • Primary contact for the next upcoming outage until initial scope selection.
  • Drives the PMO (Preventative Maintenance Optimization) efforts for the outage group to reduce outage PMs.
  • Aligns all station PMs (Preventative Maintenance work orders) to the Long-Range Outage Plan.
  • Critiques outage activities, performance, and lessons learned to provide suggestions for outage improvements.
Responsibilities In Upcoming Outage’s
  • Assists with the creation of the outage schedule(s) and monitors other outage related schedule(s) as they are developed and required to support preparation for outages.
  • Coordinates planning and scheduling tasks up to completion in accordance with the outage milestone schedule. Holds the site accountable to the milestone schedule by presenting performance indicators as to outage preparation and readiness by group.
  • Organizes and prioritizes high-risk outage work as it is identified. Monitors contingency planning, high risk work plans, and works with the high-risk work owners to mitigate possible adverse consequences.
  • Monitors HIT status and is responsible for the coordination and communication between the outage group and the HIT.
Assists the Outage Manager(s) with coordination of the outage organization
  • Organizes and communicates outage organizations activities.
  • Maintains the Outage Web page.
  • Implements a strategy for maximizing efficiency and decreasing costs to meet planning objectives and achieve continuous improvement.
  • Is the spokesperson for Cost Competitive Operation for the outage group.
Organizational Support
  • Must participate on the Emergency Response team (ERO) when designated.
  • Must support the biennial refueling outage.
  • Must provide support to the OCC and EOC.
Required Education And Experience Outage Support Coordinator II
  • Master’s degree in a technical field involving Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Technology, or Computer Science and 6 years of experience in operations, maintenance, engineering or technical project management.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a technical field involving Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Technology, or Computer Science and 8 years of experience in operations, maintenance, engineering or technical project management.
  • OR Associate’s degree in a technical field involving Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Technology, or Computer Science and 10 years of experience in operations, maintenance, engineering or technical project management.
