Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. This position supports the Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF), which is a less than Hazard Category 3 facility that treats and disposes liquid effluents from Hanford programs and projects. The ETF removes low levels of radioactive and chemical contaminants from wastewater streams.
This Chemical Engineer position may assume technical responsibility for multiple systems within the ETF. The candidate will qualify for Design Authority responsibilities for process systems/unit operations within the facility (e.g., Reverse Osmosis, UV Oxidation, Ion Exchange, Evaporator, Thin Film Dryer) as well as execute responsibilities such as the following:
- Responsible for facility waste acceptance, developing campaign plans, post campaign reports and other process related documents.
- Provide process performance trending and analysis, troubleshoot process anomalies, evaluate process strategies and improvements, and provide process direction to Operations including preparing process memos.
- Conduct site walkdowns, investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
- Develop and/or review Engineering Change Notices, specifications, calculations, drawings, and material requests.
- Assist Operations in trouble shooting activities.
- Support work package development, routine maintenance activities, field walkdowns, and field work execution.
- Provide facility specific input to projects and assist projects in design reviews, procedure development, and identifying equipment that requires preventative maintenance.
- Participate in procedure development and revisions.
- Maintain a positive customer relationship with WRPS Operations and Maintenance groups.
- Shall obtain and maintain at a minimum an Engineering Technical Staff Qualification Card.
Grade 17:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline; and Four (4) years of related experience.
Grade 18:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline; and Six (6) years of related experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline; and Eight (8) years of related experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications- Experience at an operating/processing facility, and strength in mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work alone or in a team with minimal management guidance to develop strategies/plans.
- Previous Hanford Experience.
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors.
Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Maximum: 151,038
