Position: Process Engineer (Senior Level)

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) is responsible for safely removing, treating, and disposing of radioactive and chemical tank waste. The Process Engineer supports core functions such as chemistry control, flammable gas monitoring, waste compatibility assessment, vapor handling, and retrieval operations within the Tank Farm.

  • Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the assigned tasks.
  • Conduct independent judgment in selecting, adapting, or modifying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Generate alternative solutions using sound engineering principles and demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking.
  • Participate as a team member on task forces or special assignments.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations of stand‑alone quality.
  • Develop and sustain productive customer relationships and maintain a customer‑service orientation.
  • Operate safely, meet schedules, and stay within budget while being self‑directed.
  • Perform routine administrative activities on time (training, safety meetings, TIS, staff meetings, schedule input).
  • Support other Process Engineering activities as necessary.
  • Obtain and maintain the Engineering Technical Staff Qualification card within six months of hire and the Process Engineer Qualification card within one year.
Required Qualifications
  • Grade 17:
    Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical degree and four (4) years of related experience.
  • Grade 18:
    Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical degree and six (6) years of related experience.
  • Grade 19:
    Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline and eight (8) years of related experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of operational process control principles and problem solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey ideas effectively to peers and management.
  • Knowledge of effective nuclear and non‑nuclear operations practices, startup, and conduct of operations principles.
  • Experience with Tank Farms engineering processes and/or previous experience in a nuclear facility.
  • Knowledge of leadership principles and strategies.
Compensation & Benefits

A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level within the targeted hiring range. The minimum hiring range is $99,063 and the maximum is $151,038.
