Senior Process Engineer – Nuclear (6 month contract, Richland, WA)

Position type: 6 month contract

• Have experience with nuclear system design, working with Safety Class or Safety Significant systems and working under a NQA-1 program.
• Have experience with energetics or explosives system design (synthesis, handling, mixing, and charging).
• Have experience applying nuclear, chemical or explosive‑safety requirements into designs.
• Have experience in project execution, from initial process studies, support of project cost estimates, through detailed design into EPC project execution.
• Have a clear understanding of the steps of project development (e.g., front‑end engineering design) and level of detail required in each step of project development.
• Independently develop PFDs, P&IDs, complete equipment sizing and specifications, develop instrument process data and specifications.
• Demonstrate leadership ability at the discipline level on a multidiscipline project team.
• Develop process models with commercially available programs (Aspen, Hysys, ChemCAD) or by building custom models in Excel.
• Support business development efforts by developing engineering estimates and supporting proposal development.
• This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. The position may require travel to support projects, estimated at 25%.

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET‑accredited program and 7 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
• Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering and 6 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
• Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Knowledge of process simulation software (Hysys, Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License. Preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoE or DoD Security Clearance.
