Job Responsibilities

H2C seeks an Area Engineer to join the West Area Tank Farm Engineering team. This position serves as the primary contact between Operations and Engineering, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration and effective information exchange.

Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C leads the nation’s largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste.

Area Engineers are responsible for delivering engineering products and maintaining project or facility standards in accordance with applicable codes, requirements, and specifications. They oversee a team of support engineers, manage schedules and scopes, and ensure the production of high‑quality engineering deliverables that support ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the point of contact between Operations and Engineering and coordinate additional engineering resources when required.
  • Ensure good conduct of engineering, quality of product, and provide assistance to the area operations team.
  • Function as a team member with support engineers.
  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding and broad application of technical principles, theories, and concepts relevant to the field.
  • General knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Set challenging goals for personal and group accomplishments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective interaction with personnel, management, and support organizations.
  • Prepare Engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.
  • Perform routine administrative activities/duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, TIS, continuing training, staff meetings).
  • Strive to fully understand engineering work assignments and exhibit self‑direction.
  • Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, and within the designated timeframe.

Required Qualifications

Grade 16: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; and Two (2) years of related experience.

Grade 17: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; and Four (4) years of related experience.

Grade 18: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; and Six (6) years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in a nuclear facility or related regulated environment preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Hiring Range Minimum: $90,150

Hiring Range Maximum: $137,538
