Project Overview

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste, the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects.

Job Summary

The 4D / Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Manager leads the AWP program, managing the 4D schedule and coordinating with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls. The manager oversees a team of AWP coordinators, prioritizes activities, and ensures program performance throughout the project.

Responsibilities
  • Create and update 4D iModels for HLW planning areas weekly.
  • Chair 4D planning area meetings and provide model views for engineering and subcontractors.
  • Develop Project AWP Execution Plan and construction volumes.
  • Lead scoping and sequencing of Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
  • Oversee readiness review process and transition HLW to AWP.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary model reviews using 4D Synchro and/or 3D modeling software.
  • Maintain workface planning storyboards and validate sequencing against construction execution.
  • Model scheduled scaffolds, estimate scaffold hours, and mesh 4D with P6 schedule.
  • Prepare detailed or high‑level presentations for client communication.
  • Integrate project systems, set up system mappings, and support automated data quality checks.
  • Report progress, performance, and challenges to Project Management.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of related work experience.

Knowledge of construction activities related to engineering, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.

Must be authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship, pass a pre‑employment drug screen, physical (if at site) and background check, and obtain a Department of Energy badge for site access.

  • Planning, Coordination, and Communication – Coordinate across functions, communicate execution plans, summarize data, and interface with diverse stakeholders.
  • Technical Problem‑Solving – Identify root causes, apply technical knowledge, think creatively, and develop actionable plans.
  • Construction Execution – Understand Bechtel execution practices, earned value management, and construction tools such as Synchro 4D, Smart Completions, and others.
  • Leadership – Prioritize tasks, delegate, empower team members, provide feedback, and enforce discipline.
  • Accountability – Own actions and deliverables, demonstrate commitment, and coach others on performance gaps.
