Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in leading the nation's largest and most complex waste cleanup. This position is directly supporting plant operations and providing real‑time problem solving in a fast‑paced operations and maintenance environment. The engineer will coordinate daily with H2C and subcontractor engineering teams as well as Operations & Maintenance team members to ensure smooth 24/7 operations of the Tank Side Cesium Removal system. The operation of TSCR directly supports the Department of Energy's key objective to provide direct feed of Hanford Tank Waste to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP).

• Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
• Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
• Demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking and require minimal guidance.
• Function as a team member or lead a task force or special assignment.
• Perform engineering calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project.
• Full understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.
• General knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
• Prepare Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.
• Assist in technical and cost/benefit evaluations and development of task plans and schedules.
• Prepare design media and engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.
• Perform routine administrative activities on time (routine training, safety meetings, TIS, continuing training, staff meetings).
• Ensure all documents prepared are of stand‑alone quality.
• Seek to understand engineering work assignments and be self‑directed.
• Be customer‑service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.
• Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).

• Grade 17: Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and four (4) years related experience.
• Grade 18: Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and six (6) years related experience.
• Grade 19: Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and eight (8) years related experience.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to facilitate operations and maintenance of and operational nuclear waste processing facility.
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate to peers, operations & maintenance personnel and management.
