Job Responsibilities/Duties

Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste.

H2C leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste.

Joining H2C means becoming part of a team dedicated to creating "The Solution Today for a Better Tomorrow." At H2C, our culture is deeply rooted in our Vision, Mission, Values, and Behaviors, which guide our efforts on the Hanford Site and within our communities. Our vision to tackle the Department of Energy's largest environmental challenge reflects our commitment to leaving a positive legacy for future generations.

We strive to deliver exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. Our values emphasize living safely, acting with integrity, and working collaboratively as a team. We encourage innovation, personal accountability, and continuous improvement, fostering an environment where everyone is empowered to contribute to our mission and celebrate our achievements. By embracing these principles, you will be part of a forward-thinking organization dedicated to making a meaningful impact today and for the future.

The Closure & Interim Measures (C&IM) organization performs the regulatory and technical work necessary to achieve tank farm closure. We develop the regulatory documents that support RCRA closure and corrective action, DOE Order 435.1 performance assessments, Tri Party Agreement milestones, and interim measures that protect the environment from past tank releases. Our work includes soil and groundwater contamination assessments, vadose zone characterization, development of Closure Plans and RFI/CMS documents, barrier projects, and coordination with DOE and regulatory agencies.

We are expanding our team and seeking an early to mid career Closure Regulatory Professional who is eager to grow into a regulatory subject‑matter role while supporting major closure and corrective‑action deliverables.

You will work at the forefront of one of the nation's most important environmental cleanup missions as part of a supportive team of scientists, engineers, and regulatory specialists. You will gain hands‑on experience with regulatory processes central to site closure and contribute directly to protecting the environment and advancing long‑term cleanup solutions.

The successful candidate will support C&IM regulatory strategy and document development efforts that guide tank farm closure. This role is ideal for someone who understands environmental data and regulatory frameworks and wants to develop deeper expertise in RCRA corrective action and site closure.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support preparation and revision of regulatory documents, including RCRA Facility Investigation (RFI) reports, Corrective Measures Studies (CMS), Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), Data Quality Objectives (DQOs), Data Usability Assessments (DUAs), and Tier 2/3 Closure Plans.
  • Assist in regulatory strategy development, helping interpret closure requirements, track milestone commitments, and coordinate responses to regulator comments.
  • Review scientific and environmental data (prepared by modelers, geologists, engineers, and analysts) to ensure regulatory documents accurately reflect technical conclusions.
  • Support coordination with DOE, Ecology, EPA, contractors, and stakeholders, by participating in discussions, preparing materials, and capturing meeting minutes, action items, and comment resolutions.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of closure‑related tasks, such as updates to RFI/CMS Work Plans, barrier and interim‑measure documentation, and regulatory correspondence packages.
  • Participate in internal review cycles, integrating technical inputs, incorporating comments, and preparing documents for formal transmittal.
  • Support field‑facing activities, such as reviewing sampling plans, understanding subsurface characterization efforts, and ensuring work aligns with regulatory commitments.
  • Prepare clear, well structured presentations and…
