Data Scientist: Nuclear & Chemical Threat Analytics

Responsibilities

• Develop or apply data scientific methods to analyze and adjudicate data relevant to chemical and nuclear safeguards and defense.
• Apply domain knowledge about chemical and nuclear threats and characterization techniques with data science knowledge of statistics, machine learning, advanced mathematics, simulation, software development, and data modeling to actively answer mission questions.
• Produce reproducible and scalable solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets.
• Connect the latest concepts and techniques in data science with known mission needs to help adjudicate data about chemical and

nuclear threats.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience
  -OR-
• MS/MA
  -OR-
• PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to network analysis. Additional domain application is preferred – decentralized network analysis, supply chain analysis, and sensor monitoring.

• Experience developing, training, and testing machine learning models in frameworks like PyTorch.

• Experience working with sensitive data.

• Experience deploying software into cloud-based environments. Domain knowledge about decentralized networks, threat actors,
• emerging threat techniques, and detection and characterization of threats.

• Ability to contribute knowledge to the academic and research strength of PNNL and have experience writing documentation, such as technical reports or scientific publications, demonstrating their insight and discovery.

• 3+ years of experience with computer vision in academia or industry.

• 3+ years in machine learning or applied science/research in academia or industry.

• 3+ years of experience with general purpose programming language (Python, Scala, Java, C, C++, etc.).

• Active Federal Q Clearance and ability to maintain such clearance.

  All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

Testing Designated Position

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
