* At PNNL, our core capabilities are divided among major departments that we refer to as Directorates within the Lab, focused on a specific area of scientific research or other function, with its own leadership team and dedicated budget.

Our Science & Technology directorates include National Security, Earth and Biological Sciences, Physical and Computational Sciences, and Energy and Environment. In addition, we have an Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory, a Department of Energy, Office of Science user facility housed on the PNNL campus.

The Energy and Environment Directorate delivers science and technology solutions for the nation's biggest energy and environmental challenges. Our more than 1,700 staff support the Department of Energy (DOE), delivering on key DOE mission areas including: modernizing our nation's power grid to maintain a reliable, affordable, secure, and resilient electricity delivery infrastructure; research, development, validation, and effective utilization of renewable energy and efficiency technologies that improve the affordability, reliability, resiliency, and security of the American energy system;

and resolving complex issues in nuclear science, energy, and environmental management.

The Earth Systems Science Division, part of the Energy and Environment Directorate, provides leadership and solutions that advance Earth system opportunities for energy systems and national security. We are a multidisciplinary division connected by a shared commitment to innovate and collaborate towards solving complex problems in the dynamic Earth system.

** Responsibilities*
* The Earth Systems Science Division (ESSD) within the Energy & Environment Directorate (EED) is seeking a Group Leader for the Applied Decision Systems & Analytics (ADSA) Group within ESSD. ADSA has ~60 employees, including data scientists, software engineers, program managers, technicians, post-docs and students with a budget of approximately $20M/yr. ADSA supports key applied energy and national security programs including (but not limited to) Office Environmental Management, Office of Nuclear Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, and associated industry sponsors.

Specific areas of emphasis include integrating across subject matter experts and sponsors to design, implement, and execute test and evaluation events on innovative hardware, software, and high-tech interfaces and related software support systems; design and develop analytic and data visualization software systems and web-based applications that integrate data science, risk assessments, and visualization tools to inform decision-making; provide infrastructure, visualization, and data science tools and services to identify and deliver new insights through technology-based solutions that provide decision support in critical areas of energy, environment, intelligence, and defense.

Positions comprised predominantly of management responsibilities, with significant span of control and/or delegated authority and responsibility. These positions generally manage multi-disciplinary organizations or functions through staff leaders or subordinate managers. Positions within the manager family generally interact with and negotiate at the senior management and executive levels. Management decisions impact objectives, goals and long-term success of the organization and Laboratory. Responsibilities may involve line, sector or functional lead responsibilities as part of any compensable factor at any level.

The Group Leader reports directly to the ESSD Director and will be responsible for:

+ Maintaining awareness of competitive landscape for ADSA capabilities and informing group and division strategies.

+ Being a key member of the ESSD Leadership team, championing the strategic, tactical, and operational success of the division in partnership with colleagues-, group-, and division-level leaders.
