Manager, STEM Education and Workforce Development

Overview

Reporting to theHR Deputy Director,the Manager, STEM Education and Workforce Development provides leadership for PNNL's STEM education and workforce development programs, advancing initiatives that inspire learners, strengthen engagement, expand pathways into STEM careers, and support the Lab’s mission.

This role leads the development and execution of STEM education strategies and programs that connect students, educators, universities, community organizations, industry partners, and researchers with PNNL's science and technology capabilities.

The Manager develops organizational capabilities, leads professional staff, builds strategic partnerships, secures and manages sponsored programs, and ensures STEM initiatives deliver measurable outcomes aligned with Laboratory priorities and Department of Energy objectives.

Working collaboratively across the Laboratory, the Manager translates strategic priorities into operational plans, manages multiple complex programs and initiatives, anddrives continuous improvement through collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.

• Lead STEM education and workforce development programs through a team of professional staff, ensuring successful execution of departmental priorities, program objectives, and organizational goals.
• Develop and execute departmental plans, operational priorities, and performance strategies that align STEM education initiatives with Laboratory, Battelle, and Department of Energy objectives.
• Lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of STEM education, outreach, and workforce development programs that deliver measurable impact.
• Develop, manage, and deploy STEM education capabilities, processes, and systems that strengthen program performance and organizational effectiveness.
• Manage multiple complex programs, projects, budgets, resources, schedules, and associated risks while ensuring successful delivery of program commitments.
• Build collaborative relationships with Department of Energy program offices, educational institutions, community organizations, industry partners, professional societies, and other national laboratories to expand STEM education opportunities and strengthen strategic partnerships.
• Develop competitive proposals and cultivate external funding opportunities that advance STEM education initiatives and expand organizational capabilities.
• Partner with research organizations and Laboratory leadership to align STEM education programs with scientific priorities, workforce needs, and emerging opportunities.
• Establish meaningful performance measures, evaluate program outcomes, and communicate organizational impact to Laboratory leadership, sponsors, and stakeholders.
• Represent PNNL through regional and national partnerships, working groups, and collaborative initiatives that advance STEM education and workforce development.
• Build PNNL's reputation as a trusted partner and recognized leader in STEM education through collaborative relationships, operational excellence, and program impact.

• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex scientific and technical concepts to diverse audiences.
