Overview

Assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day‑to‑day functions of the nursing service department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long‑term care facility.

Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the nursing service department.

Facilitate the resolution of issues and concerns associated with resident/patient care, including family matters.

Maintain current reference material (e.g., PDR'S, regulations, professional standards of practice) at nursing stations.

Recommend written material that helps the nursing service department meet day‑to‑day resident needs.

Ensure the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects the nursing care procedures used by this facility.

Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.

Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

Make nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the delivery of care.

Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all personnel perform their assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards and report findings to the Director.

Perform nursing assessments regarding the health status of residents/patients and develop and implement plans of care based on the assessment.

Inform the Director when physician visits are not made in a timely manner.

Review nurses’ notes to ensure they are informative and descriptive of the care provided, reflect the resident’s response, and align with the resident’s wishes.

Authorize the use of restraints when necessary and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Provide health education to patients and their families.

Assist the In‑Service Director/Educator in developing annual facility in‑service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control).

Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident, and assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including RAPs and Triggers.

Develop and maintain a written care plan for each resident that identifies problems/needs, specifies care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and the responsible professional service.

Encourage residents and their families to participate in developing and reviewing the resident’s plan of care.

Ensure all personnel involved in providing care are aware of the resident’s care plan and refer to it prior to administering daily care.

Maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to achieve a team effort.

Participate in quality assurance activities and adhere to scope‑of‑practice limitations based on qualifications.

Complete required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state/federal regulations.

Perform general nursing duties in cases of emergency or staffing shortages.

Participate in preparing and planning the nursing service department’s budget and submit it to the Director for review, recommendations, and/or approval.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.

Supervise nursing staff as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing school is preferred.
  • Good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintenance of all required continuing education/licenses.
  • Preferred: three years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite products and knowledgeable with PCC preferred.

  • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, accept constructive criticism, and deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
