Post-Doctorate Research Associate - Lipidomics and Biomarker Development

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is a world‑class research institution committed to collaboration and work–life balance. The Translation Omics Group seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop mass‑spectrometry–based lipidomics analysis and LC‑MS biomarker methods for type 1 diabetes research.

• Have strong expertise in mass spectrometry analytical approaches for omics and biological interpretation.
• Develop and validate quantitative LC‑MS assays for candidate biomarkers in complex biological matrices (e.g., plasma, serum).
• Conduct independent research, work on team assignments, lead manuscripts and maintain a strong publication record.
• Interact, communicate, and problem‑solve with a diverse, multidisciplinary research staff.
• Present research projects at national conferences.
• Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting.
• Participate in the development of research proposals. Ideal candidates also have experience in ion mobility spectrometry and bioinformatics pipelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD earned within the past 5 years (60 months) or to be earned within 8 months from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field with strong biological knowledge of human metabolism.
• Experience with mass spectrometry, chromatography (LC‑MS), and/or ion mobility spectrometry.
• Ability to handle large, complex omics datasets.
• Safety‑oriented, excellent oral and written communication skills, collaborative, and eager to learn new techniques.
• Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and ability to execute routine research tasks independently.

Research activities may involve processing samples in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory.

Salary range: USD $69,000 per year to USD $119,100 per year.
