Overview

The Translational Omics Group at PNNL seeks a passionate, innovative Postdoctoral Research Associate to revolutionize mass spectrometry-based technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop groundbreaking methodologies to precisely define macromolecular structures.
  • Develop high-resolution gas-phase separation techniques for enhanced identification and characterization of small molecules.
  • Create multi-dimensional ultra-high-resolution gas-phase separations that boost peak capacity, limit of detection, and dynamic range to tackle complex biological challenges.
  • Lead independent research and drive projects to success.
  • Process samples, analyze data, and communicate findings through timely reports, manuscript drafts, and technical presentations.
  • Maintain organized and detailed laboratory records.
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with a diverse team, generating new ideas and innovations.
  • Contribute as author or co-author on publications shaping the field.
  • Present research at national conferences.
  • Work in a safe, independent laboratory environment.
Qualifications
  • PhD earned within the past five years (60 months) or due within the next eight months.
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Pharmacy, or closely related fields (preferred).
  • Expertise in bioanalytical mass spectrometry (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, glycomics, ion mobility, native MS, etc.).
  • Experience with multi-dimensional separations, ion-mobility spectrometry approaches, and other gas-phase ion manipulation techniques.
  • Broad mass‑spectrometry knowledge.
  • Experience with SIMION and ion-optics design is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to learn new concepts and techniques.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to execute routine research tasks independently.
  • Strong organization and communication skills for efficient teamwork.
