Overview
PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) is organized into Directorates focused on specific scientific research or functions. Our Science & Technology directorates include National Security, Earth and Biological Sciences, Physical and Computational Sciences, and Energy and Environment. We operate an Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory and host a Department of Energy Office of Science user facility on the PNNL campus. The Energy and Environment Directorate delivers science and technology solutions for the nation’s energy and environmental challenges.
The Energy Processes and Materials Division within this Directorate develops real-world solutions aligned to the Department of Energy goals, connecting fundamental science to applications in areas such as energy storage, advanced materials manufacturing, applied catalysis, separations, biomass conversions, carbon capture and utilization, and hydrogen production and storage. We pursue a systems perspective that includes discovery, technology development, scale-up, and consideration of regulatory and market acceptance for successful technology commercialization.
