The outside sales representative is responsible for all customer sales activities in an assigned territory. The sales representative works within the sales and support teams for the achievement of customer satisfaction, profitable revenue generation, and long-term account goals which align with company strategy, vision, and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Meet and/or exceed sales goals and objectives for assigned territory.
- Collaborate with Regional Sales Manager to establish targets, goals, and opportunities.
- Actively engaged in opportunity pipeline.
- Meet / exceed quota for sales, gross margin, and YoY growth.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding and execution of each step in the sales process.
- Prospect
- Identify, set up and sell new customers that fit our ideal customer profile.
- Explore
- Develop understanding of the customer and their business. Identify customer challenges and needs. Identify new business opportunities with current customers.
- Educate
- Present our features and benefits for our products and services. Suggest solutions that provide relevant value to the customer’s needs.
- Propose
- Prepare and present proposals that address the needs of the customer.
- Execute
- Prepare and present a transition plan. Fulfil obligations. Transition the business smoothly, and continue to add value to the customer.
- Prospect
- Management of partnered accounts, national accounts, and committed business.
- Focus on retention of partner accounts, taking ownership of all account activity and customer experience.
- Explore new business opportunities.
- Become a valued and trusted advisor to all levels of the business, including all leadership.
- Communicate and collaborate with national accounts, and Regional Sales Manager to add value and grow the business.
- Exhibit thorough understanding of the business – internally and externally.
- Internally:
- Woodgrain capabilities, processes, products, supply chain, data, CRM, etc.
- Externally:
- Global supply chain, local market trends and conditions, supply partners, competition, market pricing, etc.
- Internally:
- Organization, prioritization, and communication.
- Set an effective and efficient schedule for meetings, travel, and office time.
- Complete all action items in a timely manner.
- Respond quickly and show a sense of urgency.
- Takes time for self and professional development.
- Allocate time to prepare for sales calls.
- Allocate time for completing action items from sales calls.
- Keep new business opportunities updated in CRM.
- Keep account information and sales calls updated in CRM.
- Communicate well across all business functions to satisfy customer needs.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree is preferred but not required.
Outside sales experience of at least one year, unless currently in another role within our organization.
OtherSkills and Abilities
The sales representative must have a competitive attitude and desire to succeed. Candidate should have above average skills in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Attention to detail a must. Time management skills, self‑motivation, relationship building, and a positive attitude are required. Customer‑facing roles require maintaining a professional appearance and image to the public.
Significant travel with overnight stay is required.
