Job Duties/Scope Of Work

Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Security Specialist to join our Safeguards and Security (SAS) Performance Assurance team, supporting effectiveness and compliance. This role will perform corrective action activities, program assessments, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives meet Department of Energy (DOE) standards and contract requirements.

You will engage with multidisciplinary teams across departments, utilize cause analysis, and deploy process improvements to strengthen the SAS organization. Your work will drive organizational excellence, transparency, and accountability, directly impacting the ongoing mission of secure operations at the Hanford Site.

Job Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Maintain thorough understanding of federal directives, contract requirements, and relevant procedures.
  • Corrective Action Management:
  • Facilitate the SAS corrective action process ensuring timely documentation, assignment, verification, and closure of corrective actions.
  • Monitor progress of open corrective actions, maintain tracking systems, and generate regular management reports.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate apparent and root causes, developing effective and sustainable solutions.
  • Deliver training and guidance on corrective action methodologies and tools to personnel.
  • Self-Assessments:
  • Perform self-assessments, reviews, and evaluations of SAS programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Apply assessment approaches including interviews, observations, performance testing, and data analysis.
  • Compile results into concise, accurate reports that meet DOE requirements.
  • Substantiate assessment findings and deficiencies with objective evidence and clear documentation.
  • Engage and coordinate with SAS representatives and other contractors for integrated site-wide program compliance.
  • Performance Assurance Trend Analysis
  • Support managers and SMEs in analyzing performance trends and providing actionable feedback.
  • Conduct trend analysis and recommend preventive measures based on data and metrics.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience in assessments, audits, evaluations, performance assurance, or continuous improvement, OR equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in critical thinking, analytical problem solving, and data-based decision making.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with ability to write clear, concise, and effective reports.
  • Ability to complete required on-the-job and formal training for certification as a Safeguards and Security Assessment Specialist.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments (e.g., DOE).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" Clearance. Any offer of employment is contingent on the applicant passing a background investigation. As part of the investigation, Federal investigators will examine many aspects of the applicant's past including: financial and criminal histories, mental and emotional health, education and travel, drug and alcohol usage, personal and organizational relationships, as well as other aspects of the applicant's background.

  • Knowledge of SAS concepts, DOE directives, and Hanford contractor policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency with corrective action tracking software or management systems.
  • Prior work experience in safeguards and security with DOE requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Grade 16: $90,150 - $113,550
  • Grade 17: $99,063 - $124,788
  • Grade 18: $109,013 - $137,538
