Position Summary:

The Nurse Extern will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

* Works collaboratively with the patient care team.

* Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.

* Documents patient care given.

* Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the supervising RN.

* Maintains positive professional relationships with patients/families, coworkers, and health care teams.

* Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

* Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

* Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

* Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

* Supports performance improvement philosophy.

Required Skills:

* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

* Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.:

Minimum Education:

* School of Nursing 3rd year student or higher.

Licenses/Certifications:

Basic Life Support Health Care (BLS-HSP).
