About the PositionWe have an immediate opening for a Junior Commodity Lumber Trader to join our Sales team at our head office in Richmond, BC.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a sharp, driven, and motivated individual — especially recent graduates or early‑career professionals — who thrives on building relationships, understanding market dynamics, and closing deals. The role offers the perfect balance of strategic thinking and hands‑on execution, with time split between client calls, trading desk work, and occasional customer visits.
You will receive comprehensive on‑the‑job training and work closely with our experienced Sales team, learning the intricacies of the North American and export lumber markets. We believe in developing talent from within, and this position provides a clear pathway to a rewarding and lucrative career.
We offer a competitive starting annual salary of $50,000
. After 1–2 years (or once you have gained the necessary knowledge and skills), the role transitions to a 100% commission‑based structure, where strong performers commonly earn $100,000+ per year
.
- Build and strengthen internal relationships with the Sales and Admin teams.
- Coordinate shipments with external transportation partners, regulatory agencies, and customers to ensure timely and compliant delivery.
- Manage daily shipping transactions and logistics activities.
- Generate accurate and timely export and shipping documentation.
- Coordinate pick‑ups and deliveries with both internal and external customers.
- Select the most suitable transportation partners to achieve optimal value and on‑time performance.
- Track shipments, maintain complete documentation, and proactively resolve any issues or delays.
- Communicate clearly and collaboratively with all stakeholders.
- Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written) is mandatory, with the ability to interact clearly, professionally, and constructively with peers, suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Post‑secondary education in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of shipping, logistics, and scheduling operations.
- Previous sales experience and/or knowledge of wood products or the lumber industry.
