This role will report to the Regulatory Compliance Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Identify and action discrepancies in documentation associated with the Customs clearance of imported goods
Verify the accuracy of, prepare and process brokerage invoices for payment for Accounts Payable
Review customs broker invoices and reports for accuracy, efficiency, and timely action; note errors, issues, and escalate as required
Liaise and communicate between customs brokers, service providers, government agencies and the Emerson Canadian locations to provide Trade Compliance support; resolve issues, concerns, and questions as they arise
Identify inefficiencies and problem-solve for long-term solutions in Trade Compliance processes
Uphold and promote required trade compliance as set out by CBSA, CBP, as well as other foreign Customs Authorities and government agencies' regulations as required
Understand and communicate standard operating procedures to all business units; update according to changes in regulations
Manage, review and action inquiries and questions; assist in ensuring trade compliance is achieved at a high level within import, export, and supply chain security processes
Database management: create new parts, update and/or replace existing parts, maintain the import database on a short-term and long-term basis; update USMCA/CUSMA data; anti-dumping and countervailing duty data; OGD data
Analyse export documentation that is supplied to Emerson Canadian locations for discrepancies and advise of required revisions before shipping and/or customs entry
Address import overages, shortages, damages (O/S/D) and general discrepancies; document and prepare correct information for the broker to file B2 and B3x adjustments; communicate with Emerson locations and customs broker for action
Review Canadian and US brokerage billing invoices for accuracy; request post-entry adjustments where required; supply supporting documentation and information to substantiate duty refunds and payments
Communicate effectively with brokers, carriers, service providers, CBSA, et al: email, telephone, fax, mail and in-person. Trace/track shipments when requested
Support customs broker with issues; missing or incomplete documentation must be addressed for release on go-forward basis; clarify accounts (CSA & non-CSA); provide classification as needed; respond to general inquiries; review broker for accuracy, clearance delays (resolve and eliminate where required)
Ensure classification is completed in the current Canadian Customs Tariff and US Harmonised Tariff Schedule; must follow and use General Rules of Interpretation; review Legal, Chapter and Explanatory notes; follow binding rulings. Assist in USMCA/CUSMA renewal annually; prepare and distribute letters for year-end USMCA/CUSMA requests; examine USMCA/CUSMA certificates for validity before implementation; support USMCA/CUSMA program throughout each calendar year
Assist in month-end / year-end procedures; organise, analyse data; allocate and process payment of duty and tax to the Receiver General of Canada
Review controlled exports for potential required authorisation: apply for export permits and export licenses; collaborate with the business unit to obtain information and documentation required per export control regulations
Perform ad hoc and long-term transaction and restricted party list (RPL) screening on all domestic and international customers; confirm screening has been completed per transaction screening policy; elevate potential violations and concerns
Random product sample verification of inventory; liaise with the warehouse supervisor
Utilise Archer Enterprise Risk and Management Tool; coordinate with Emerson Canadian locations to ensure information is valid and up-to-date; assist with self-assessment and other tool functions; provide training where required
Ensure ISO 9000 Policies/Procedures are followed

Qualifications
High School graduation
Trade compliance / Customs (CBSA) diploma or any other post‑secondary certificate
Must be available to work overtime
Experience in MS Office
