Position: Adult Education Teacher (Contra Costa Adult Schools)

Requirements/

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Teaching Credential (Adult Education with ESL & elementary & secondary basic skills;
    Building and Construction Trades OR Multiple Subject or Single Subject Industrial & Technology Education with ELA with the capability to teach MC3 curriculum)
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience and training working with alternative education students preferred.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain security clearance at detention facilities.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred
About the position:

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Teacher, Adult Education will provide instruction in accordance with the Contra Costa County Board-adopted course curriculum, quality educational resources and in consideration of individual student needs. Education programs are conducted within a variety of instructional settings and are designed to meet the needs of an itinerant population, with open-entry and exit, through large group, small groups, and independent study.

All programs serve resident adult inmates awaiting a hearing or serving a sentence. The Contra Costa County Office of Education is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence.

The teacher in this position should have strong math skills, understanding of CASAS testing, demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction, proven ability to build positive relationships with adult learners and staff, ability to maintain effective classroom management, knowledge of equity-based adult learning principles and workforce development strategies that support academic, language, career and reentry success. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English), and experience supporting multilingual learners or English learners, are preferred but not required.

The teacher in this position will work primarily at the West County Detention Facility location, depending on student needs, may also provide instruction to students at the Clayton and Martinez Detention facilities.
