Position: Maintenance Technician – Pilot Operations (Fixed-Term Project) (Richmond)

Position Summary

Kemetco is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team immediately, to support a 2-year pilot operation at its Richmond, BC facility. This role focuses on mechanical installation, modification, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pilot plant equipment during commissioning, active pilot campaigns, and equipment reconfiguration. The position is offered as a 2-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for transition to permanent employment based on project needs and performance.

Work hours may vary, with increased support required during commissioning and continuous pilot operations. This position is well suited to a millwright with mining, mineral processing, or chemical plant experience who is comfortable working in evolving, non‑routine operating environments.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Installation & Commissioning

  • Install, assemble, align, and commission pilot plant equipment, piping, and mechanical systems.
  • Support mechanical scope during pilot plant setup, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Assist with mechanical modifications and reconfiguration between test campaigns as flow sheets evolve.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pilot plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and support rapid repairs during active pilot campaigns.

Safety & Compliance

  • Perform all work in accordance with health and safety requirements, including lockout/tagout and isolation procedures.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-job safety meetings, and toolbox talks.
  • Identify and report mechanical hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment risks.
  • Ensure mechanical work complies with site procedures and applicable regulations.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with metallurgists, operators, and safety personnel during pilot operations.
  • Provide input into equipment selection, maintainability, and design improvements.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment documentation, and spare parts lists.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completion of an industrial mechanical apprenticeship or combination of over 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Red Seal certified as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) is an asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial setting, i.e., mining, mineral processing, chemical plants, or pilot‑scale facilities.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with pumps, agitators, tanks, piping systems, and rotating equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of industrial control systems and electrical equipment is an asset.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and non‑routine maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including shift or on‑call support during pilot campaigns.
  • Strong commitment to safety and best maintenance practices.
  • Applicants with a well‑maintained personal tool kit suitable for industrial maintenance work are preferred.
Work Environment & Additional Information
  • Compensation:
    Base annual salary range of $75,000‑$100,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may be available during periods of extended or shift‑based pilot operations.
  • Position may require shifts and weekends work to support 24/7 operations.
  • Position based at Kemetco’s Richmond, BC facility.
  • Physically demanding role requiring work in industrial plant environments.
  • Exposure to mechanical, chemical, and process hazards under controlled conditions.
