This isn't your average hotel engineering role; it's a critical leadership position at a property renowned for its sophisticated design, upscale amenities, and delivering a premium guest experience. As the Director of Engineering, you won't just be maintaining systems; you'll be the strategic guardian of the property and its aesthetic integrity, ensuring seamless operations that directly support our Client's brand promise of stylish, high-quality hospitality.

Required Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 5–8 years of progressive engineering leadership experience, preferably in hospitality or a similar environment.

Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

A 4th Class Power Engineering Certification is required.

Proven experience managing capital projects and budgets.

Experience working within a unionized environment is an asset. This property has both union and non-union employees.

Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations and building compliance requirements.

Ability to work full-time onsite is required.

This is an in-person position that requires a flexible schedule. The primary schedule for the role will be Monday - Friday, but flexibility is required to work evenings and weekends when business needs require.

Responsibilities of the Position
  • OPERATIONS & MAINTAINENCE:
    Oversee the day-to-day operation of all engineering and maintenance functions across the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, and marina infrastructure.
  • Ensure the effective execution of a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Maintain all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire life safety, and building automation systems.
  • Respond to and resolve maintenance issues impacting guest experience with urgency and professionalism.
  • CAPITAL PLANNING & ASSET MANAGEMENT:
    Develop and manage the hotel’s annual Cap Ex plan and long-term asset strategy.
  • Lead major repair, renovation, and replacement projects from planning through execution.
  • Monitor asset condition and lifecycle, ensuring alignment with brand standards and ownership expectations.
  • Control departmental budgets, expenses, and procurement processes.
  • HEALTH, SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:
    Ensure full compliance with all applicable:
    WorkSafeBC regulations, Fire and Life safety codes, Environmental and Municipal requirements.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all departments.
  • VENDOR & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT:
    Establish and manage relationships with external contractors, service providers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Negotiate contracts and oversee service delivery to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with all hotel departments to support operational excellence.
  • SUSTAINABILITY & EFFICIENCY:
    Identify and implement initiatives to improve Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation and Waste reduction.
  • Monitor utility usage and implement cost‑saving measures without compromising service quality.
