Director of Engineering – Role Overview
As the Director of Engineering, you will provide strategic leadership and operational direction to a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for developing and supporting our product lines. Reporting directly to the Vice President / General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in aligning engineering strategies with business objectives, fostering a lean and innovative culture, and enhancing cross‑functional collaboration to drive performance and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute strategic engineering plans that support company growth, efficiency, and innovation.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to engineering managers across product lines, ensuring clear communication and alignment of departmental objectives.
- Build organizational capabilities through skills gap assessments, coaching, and professional development programs.
- Champion Lean principles across engineering functions to promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with senior leadership and cross‑functional teams (Product Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Operations, Service) to ensure engineering output aligns with business needs.
- Oversee project execution—including planning, resource management, timelines, and deliverables—ensuring on‑time and within‑budget completion.
- Drive innovation, cost optimization, and design improvements without compromising product performance, quality, or safety.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and internal standards, ensuring engineering practices meet industry and corporate benchmarks.
- 10+ years in progressive engineering roles, including at least 5 years leading cross‑functional engineering teams and managing complex technical projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related). MBA is a plus.
- Solid strategic thinking, solid analytical skills and decision‑making capabilities.
- Deep understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Skilled in managing complex, multi‑product‑line projects with competing priorities.
- Strong understanding of industry regulations, safety standards, and engineering best practices.
- Experience in matrixed or multi‑line product organizations is considered an asset.
