Project Manager – Construction

(Education K–12 / DSA & General Construction Projects)

Location: Bay Area, CA

(Project-based roles may be located in the Scotts Valley / Santa Cruz region or greater Bay Area depending on assignment)

Position Summary

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the successful execution of construction projects across multiple market sectors, including Education (K–12 / DSA-regulated projects) and general commercial or public works projects
. Acting as the central leader for each project, the PM drives planning, risk mitigation, team coordination, and execution to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with company values.

This role requires strong leadership, technical understanding of construction processes, and the ability to manage complex project variables across all phases of construction.

Key Responsibilities Project Execution & Leadership
  • Lead tactical project execution, including defining project approach, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Set the tone for projects through proactive planning, de-risking strategies, and clear team alignment.
  • Direct, motivate, and coordinate internal teams and trade partners to achieve schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
Contract, Financial & Risk Management
  • Manage contractual and administrative obligations including owner contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost controls, change management processes, manpower planning, and financial forecasts.
  • Lead job-specific buyout strategies in coordination with estimating and executive leadership.
  • Manage project risk and ensure compliance with contract requirements, including notice provisions.
  • Study and understand prime contracts to protect company rights and reduce exposure.
Scheduling & Coordination
  • Lead master scheduling in collaboration with superintendents and trade partners.
  • Coordinate closely with field leadership to ensure constructability, sequencing, and productivity.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote job site safety and enforce safe work practices; complete all required company safety training.
  • Lead development and implementation of project-specific quality control, safety, and environmental programs.
  • For education projects, coordinate with applicable regulatory and inspection authorities (e.g., DSA) as required.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, consultants, inspectors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead communication on project issues and recommend effective resolutions.
  • Direct, supervise, mentor, and coach Project Engineers, Field Engineers, Team Coordinators, and Project Accountants.
Business Development & Preconstruction Support
  • Participate in project pursuits, including proposal strategy, estimating support, presentations, interviews, and preconstruction services.
  • Support relationship-building efforts with repeat clients, partners, and industry contacts.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and community engagements as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience across all phases of construction.
  • Experience in Education / K–12 construction and DSA coordination strongly preferred for education-focused projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong ability to manage diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Experience with sustainability, environmental compliance, or public-sector projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Plan Grid, Bluebeam, Primavera, Navisworks, Microsoft Project, Viewpoint, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools preferred.
