Overview
This position will lead the day shift Production Team for the Bio-Rad Richmond plant that produces process chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized life science products. In this position, you will leverage your best creativity and experience to first, ensure the safety of production staff, and second, provide vision and support for manufacturing throughput and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., training programs, product yield improvements, and batch record optimization).
You will be responsible for managing a crew of 10+ people who produce bulk materials on equipment that includes glass-lined reactors, formulation tanks, wet and dry sizing equipment, centrifuges, vacuum ovens, etc. Your role is to ensure the safe execution of work following work procedures to produce quality products.
- Ensure the safe, on time manufacture of quality chemical products by aligning daily operations with production schedules, business objectives, and regulatory requirements (ISO, EHS).
- Supervise and develop a team of 10+ operators through coaching, goal setting, training compliance, and performance management, including regular feedback and formal reviews.
- Coordinate daily production activities with Warehouse, Quality, Engineering, MSAT, and Maintenance to meet demands for production, product development, capacity increases, and process improvement projects.
- Monitor chemical processes, guide technical troubleshooting, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedules, budgets, and established performance targets; escalate issues as appropriate.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on equipment reliability, process optimization, quality improvement, and continuous improvement.
- Apply strong process and technical knowledge to support investigations, address customer or quality concerns, and review production procedures, batch records, and process changes.
- Education:
Bachelors degree or equivalent in an engineering, chemistry and/or biology or related field. - Work Experience:
7+ years manufacturing production experience, preferably in a regulated environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with polymerization reactions is a plus. - 5+ years of supervisory experience.
- Based on function, a solid knowledge of certain compliance issues, e.g., FDA, GMP, ISO, etc.
- In depth knowledge of assigned product group(s).
- Advanced knowledge of production techniques, processes and concepts.
- Knowledge of applicable equipment, systems, and compliance (e.g., FDA, GMP, etc.).
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Relevant certifications or training a plus.
- Experienced with the introduction of new products, process scale up and the transfer of products to other manufacturing locations.
- Thorough understanding of quality systems as they relate to production operations.
Location: This position must be based in Richmond, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.
