Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
About the Opportunity
Professional Tree Care Co. is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic familiar with diesel‑ and gas‑powered vehicles and heavy equipment. The candidate will primarily work at the Green Waste Recycle Yard in Richmond, CA, maintaining and repairing a variety of commercial and heavy machinery.
Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment, including chippers, dump trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, and others. Typical work involves engines, transmissions, chassis, drive lines, hydraulics, brakes, electrical, suspension systems, and wheels.
- Create equipment condition reports and repair orders.
- Assist with tools and parts inventory and ordering.
- Communicate with operators, the General Manager, and the future Fleet Manager regarding vehicle status, roadworthiness, registration, and licensing.
- Consult drivers/operators and operations managers to clarify defects and discuss preventive techniques to minimize future repairs.
- Clean California Driver’s License (no points).
- At least 5 years of experience as a mechanic or technician working on passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, and heavy equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, advanced electrical, drive train, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components with evidence of ASE Certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a technician on heavy equipment, demonstrating ability to handle increasingly challenging maintenance tasks.
- GED or high school degree.
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds routinely and 100 pounds occasionally; able to stand during an 8‑hour shift.
- Experience with heavy equipment such as skidders, swing machines, mobile cranes, bucket trucks, stump grinders, log splitters, and wheel loaders.
- Trade school certificate or degree as a mechanic.
- Certificate in electrical diagnostics.
- Applicable ASE certifications.
- Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
- Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
This is a full‑time, permanent position located at 2550 Garden Tract Road, Richmond, CA. Hourly compensation ranges from $25.00 to $50.00 per hour, based on experience. Candidates at the high end of this range should be top technicians capable of maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting any machine in our fleet.
