Director of Data, AI, and Enterprise Business Systems

Our client is seeking a 6-month contract to hire resource local to Richmond, Indiana.

The Director of Data, AI & Enterprise Business Systems leads the people, platforms, and practices that support the health system's data, analytics, automation, AI governance, and enterprise business systems. This role turns data into trusted information for decision‑making and keeps the systems that move, manage, and present that information reliable and effective.

The portfolio includes six connected areas:

• Data and AI governance
• Data management, including engineering, platform, architecture, and archiving
• Enterprise analytics for clinical and business users, including Epic Cogito
• Application integration and interfaces
• Robotic process automation and test automation
• The Workday ERP platform

These functions are grouped together because they share the same raw material: data. Data moves through interfaces, lands in enterprise platforms, is modeled for analytics, supports AI models and bots, and appears in the systems people use every day. One leader owning the full path helps keep definitions consistent, handoffs clean, and decisions grounded in the same information.

The Director works closely with Information Security, the AI Committee, Finance, Human Resources, clinical leadership, and operational leaders across the health system. Success is measured by whether the work improves decisions, reduces manual effort, strengthens governance, and increases trust in the systems and data people rely on.

The Director guides a multidisciplinary team across the areas above and moves a strong program into its next phase of maturity. The role is approximately 70 percent strategic leadership and 30 percent hands‑on technical depth. The Director reports to the VP of Information Services/CIO.

The Director of Data, AI & Enterprise Business Systems leads strategy and execution across data and AI governance, data management, enterprise analytics, application integration and interfaces, robotic process automation and testing, and the Workday ERP platform, ensuring reliable systems, strong governance, and trusted information for decision‑making across the health system.

• Set and communicate the strategic plan, annual goals, and objectives for data, AI, automation, and enterprise systems.
• Create and champion an Analytics & Insights center of excellence.
• Work with business, clinical, and IT leaders to set priorities across the portfolio and hold the line when demand exceeds capacity.
• Represent the department in the development of organizational policies and procedures, and serve on committees as appropriate.

• Own the operating side of data governance, including data definitions, ownership, stewardship, retention, and the enterprise data classification framework.
• Run the intake, review, documentation, and monitoring process for AI and machine learning models used in clinical or operational decisions, covering performance, drift, bias review, and retirement.
• Bring AI use cases through the AI Committee and keep model documentation current and defensible against the AI governance policy and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Partner with Information Security on access controls, minimum necessary rules, and third party data sharing.

• Direct data engineering, the data platform, data architecture, and archiving across the health system.
• Own pipeline reliability, load schedules, and the health of the enterprise data warehouse.
• Set and enforce archiving and retention practice for retired applications and legacy data, in step with Legal, Compliance, and Health Information Management.
