SUPERVISING TAX AUDITOR Examination

Salary: $33,820.80 - $78,594.42 per year.
Responsibilities- Examines, analyzes, and performs simple and complex tax investigations on various municipal income tax accounts and tax returns from individuals, businesses, and employers.
- Conducts investigations necessary to secure compliance with the income tax ordinance.
- Conducts field investigations of possible non‑compliance.
- Makes personal audits and investigations of doubtful or more difficult cases.
- Interprets the ordinance, rules and regulations, and assists taxpayers in making returns.
- Works with other divisional staff to complete tasks and to train and/or check the work of divisional staff if needed.
- Assists taxpayers and businesses in person within and outside of the office, over the phone, internet, and through written correspondence.
- Performs other related duties within or outside the tax office.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- Two years of full‑time paid experience in accounting or auditing.
- Two years of full‑time experience in preparation and auditing of income taxes is preferred.
- One year of any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software packages.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Valid State of Ohio Driver's License.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F, and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214 must be presented at the time of filing the application for the examination in which credit is sought. If the applicant has an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions, five (5) points are added to the raw score;
ten (10) points are added if the applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service‑connected disability. Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed‑service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
