Kentucky Horseshoeing School (KHS), founded in 1978, is a premier farrier education center in North America, known for training professionals who shoe world champion horses across multiple breeds. Located on 40 acres in Kentucky, the campus includes 23,000 square feet of classrooms, shops, and instructional areas, as well as energy‑efficient dormitories that support an immersive learning environment. KHS continually updates its curriculum, staff expertise, and facilities to reflect current shoeing methods, materials, and industry standards.

The school emphasizes a strong foundation in balanced shoeing through anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and practical work. KHS is the only independent, nationally accredited farrier school in the U.S. and the only one independently approved to participate in the Federal Student Loan Program.

Role Description

This is a contract, hybrid Bookkeeper role based in Richmond, KY, with some work‑from‑home flexibility. The Bookkeeper will manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, including recording and reconciling financial transactions, preparing journal entries, and maintaining accurate general ledger records. Responsibilities include processing accounts payable and receivable, monitoring tuition and fee payments, and supporting payroll preparation in coordination with school leadership. The person in this role will assist in preparing monthly and annual financial statements, support budgeting and cash flow tracking, and help ensure compliance with school policies and applicable regulations.

The Bookkeeper will also respond to financial inquiries, organize documentation for audits or reviews, and collaborate with administrative staff to improve financial processes.

Qualifications
  • Strong bookkeeping and finance skills, including experience managing day‑to‑day accounting records and financial workflows.
  • Proficiency in preparing and interpreting financial statements and related financial reports.
  • Hands‑on experience with accounting software and related tools for data entry, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and post journal entries and maintain a clean general ledger.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Previous experience in an educational, nonprofit, or small‑business environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid setting, with the ability to be on‑site in Richmond, KY as needed.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
