Dental Assistant

• Register patients for dental hygienist services
• Assist the dental hygienist in all aspects of patient care and oral care service delivery
• Perform initial physical and history taking, including interviewing patients
• Document activities, services, and patient information in medical records
• Explain services and answer patient questions
• Counsel patients regarding department services
• Order supplies and stock the mobile dental unit
• Answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate person
• Provide services in clinics, schools, long-term care facilities, Head Starts, child care centers, community settings, and mobile units

• High school diploma or GED
• May be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check according to the agency’s policies
• Ability to interview patients and obtain medical history information
• Ability to document services in patient medical records
• Ability to assist the dental hygienist in oral care services
• Ability to answer phones and direct calls appropriately
• Ability to work inside clinics, community settings, schools, long-term care facilities, Head Starts, child care centers, and mobile units

Demonstrates proficiency in patient registration, oral care assistance, and effective communication within diverse healthcare settings. Capable of documenting patient information accurately and providing support in mobile and community-based dental services.
