Job Summary /Basic Functions

Advises assigned students for the purpose of assisting them in establishing plans and goals. Provides onboarding services to assist with required petitions, transfer credits, and course scheduling. Assists with graduation clearance process for assigned students. Reports to Associate Dean and works closely with other college advisors to learn curriculum of relevant departments and assist and track curricular processes and changes. Utilizes university resources such as Degree Works, Advising 360, Banner, and Slate to process information and keep timely and accurate records.

Interacts with students through meetings, phone, and/or email to troubleshoot or problem solve advising and retention challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

At least one year of college-level experience working with students in an advisory/support or teaching capacity is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Degree Works, Advising 360, Banner, and/or Slate preferred.

The incumbent is expected to exercise judgment and initiative to make frequent recommendations or decisions on more complex matters within established procedures and professional and ethical practices. Errors could cause moderate and possibly serious consequences in terms of retention and student success, and could affect or disrupt the university's retention and recruitment programs.

Job Duties:

* 50% - Serves as primary academic advisor for assigned freshmen and sophomore students for the purpose of assisting them in establishing an academic plan and positive and effective strategies that will enable student retention and success.

* 15% - Reviews degree audits of students who have applied for graduation (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) to ensure they are on track and to resolve any issues that would prevent their timely completion of their degree program.

* 15% - Collaborates with other professional advisors and Associate Dean to learn curriculum of relevant departments and assist and track curricular processes and changes.

* 10% - Collaborates with CLASS advisors to support advising efforts for in-person and online programs operating within the college.

* 10% - Other duties as assigned.
