Agape Christian Academy is seeking a Christ-centered Reading Specialist to support students in grades K–4 through targeted literacy intervention and small-group instruction. This role involves close collaboration with classroom teachers and families to oversee evidence-based programs, while equipping faculty and tutors to foster growth in literacy skills across the campus.
Instruction & Student Support- Lead and manage targeted reading interventions for students in grades K–4 utilizing:
- Barton Reading & Spelling System
- Wilson Reading System
- Other evidence-based literacy protocols and interventions
- Direct and supervise individualized and small-group instruction centered on the five pillars of reading:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- Fluency
- Vocabulary
- Reading Comprehension
- Execute literacy screenings and implement consistent progress monitoring assessments.
- Evaluate student data to establish intervention priorities and formalize instructional objectives.
- Maintain records of student advancement and all intervention documentation.
- Engage faculty, families, and administration regarding student development and areas of concern.
- Equip classroom teachers in the implementation of high-impact literacy instruction and specialized intervention protocols.
- Partner with faculty to identify students in need of literacy support and formalize comprehensive intervention strategies.
- Provide essential instructional resources, expert modeling, and professional coaching to enhance campus-wide literacy.
- Assist faculty in leveraging assessment data to inform instructional priorities and catalyze student growth.
- Active participation in student support committees and collaborative planning sessions.
- Participate in IEP meetings, fostering collaboration among families, faculty, interventionists, and administration.
- Oversee the management and regular monitoring of the IEP process.
- Ensure consistent compliance with documentation standards, specialized accommodations, progress reporting, and established timelines.
- Support the implementation of literacy-centered IEP goals and instructional accommodations.
- Partner with external specialists and service providers as necessary to support student growth.
- Model Christlike character, wisdom, and professional excellence in every interaction.
- Infuse student support and relational engagement with biblical principles and spiritual encouragement.
- Lead students, families, and faculty in prayer, interceding for their growth and well-being.
- Advance the mission and vision of Agape Christian Academy through dedicated servant leadership and compassionate care.
- Participate in staff devotions, faculty meetings, and professional development.
- Support school-wide activities including chapel, Parent Fellowship, Back-to-School Night, School Auction, Spring Banquet, and academic showcases.
- A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in lifestyle and leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, or related field required.
- Reading endorsement, intervention certification, or special education licensure preferred.
- Experience with Barton Reading & Spelling System and/or Wilson Reading System preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention practices.
- Strong understanding of the science of reading and the five pillars of reading instruction.
- Experience working with elementary students, especially struggling readers and students with learning differences.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Commitment to Christian education and the mission of Agape Christian Academy.
- Ability to engage students with passion, clarity, and structure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and faculty.
- Prior teaching experience is preferred, ideally in Christian education.
- Familiarity with biblically integrated curriculum models preferred.
Due to the unique and pivotal time where Agape finds herself, these duties may expand or contract within reason while the future Head of School is sought. As such, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an overwhelming spirit of flexibility in working with the Campus Principal(s), Head of School, and the Board.
