Assistant Director of Graduate Admission – Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Admission, the Assistant Director of Graduate Admission at the University of Mount Union is responsible for attaining recruitment goals for all Mount Union graduate programs. This individual participates fully in all recruitment activities that lead to the achievement of the University’s enrollment goals. The Assistant Director supports and guides students through the college selection process, orienting them to the offerings of the University, and fosters enthusiasm among professionals and prospective students seeking admission into the University of Mount Union.
This position travels on a regular schedule around an assigned region, which will include overnight and out-of-state travel. The Assistant Director builds and manages both new and mature relationships between the University and organization personnel related to graduate program offerings, as well as with community and access groups. The assistant is energetic, creative, forward‑thinking, goal‑oriented, and detail‑oriented with a tolerance for ambiguity.
The Assistant Director demonstrates strengths in planning, communication, and follow‑through, and maintains a high standard of personal integrity, honesty, and character.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a valid, non‑suspended Ohio driver’s license and meeting the criteria to drive a University vehicle.
- Establishing, building, and managing relationships with stakeholders in the assigned region.
- Communicating with prospective students regarding admission, following a structured plan that includes phone calls and drafted emails and letters to prospective students and their parents.
- Participating as an active member of the Office of Admission staff at all recruitment events, including evenings and weekends.
- Managing travel and program budgets.
- Ensuring the integrity and consistency of recruitment data for assigned territories.
- Participating in strategic planning efforts for graduate programs.
- Enhancing professional growth through continuing education, professional organizations, seminars, workshops, and current literature.
- Leading the development and coordination of special projects assigned by the Director of Admission.
- Providing training opportunities for Office of Admission staff on graduate programs and their enrollment processes.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of a yearly recruitment plan along with enrollment and marketing plans for all graduate programs.
- Reviewing admission files and entering admission decisions into Slate in conjunction with graduate program directors.
- Collaborating with the Director of Admission and Admission Counselor/Recruitment Communications position to establish effective communication flows for prospective graduate students.
- Coordinating a significant annual recruitment program or activity for a targeted group of constituents.
- Participating in University compliance training as directed by the University, Vice President of Enrollment Management, or Director of Admission.
- Performing the Director of Admission’s duties in their absence, including leading staff meetings and confirming admission decisions.
- Performing other functionally related duties as assigned.
The Assistant Director is expected to exercise judgment and make appropriate decisions, consulting with the Director of Admission on a regular basis. This position is required to complete assigned University compliance training as communicated by the University.
Qualifications and RequirementsThe successful candidate must minimally possess a bachelor’s degree, have demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work as part of a team and independently. Preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree, 2 years of experience within an admission office or graduate admission experience, and experience working with diverse populations. Proven ability to develop a new recruitment territory is beneficial.
A valid, non‑suspended driver’s license is required, and the candidate must meet the criteria to drive a University vehicle.
