Assistant Professor of Counselor Education

Position:
Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond Campus. Full‑time faculty, tenure‑track, 30‑day search. Department: 23R000 – College of Ed & Appl Human Sciences. Division: 2R0000 – Academic Affairs. Driver Classification:
Non‑Driver. Exempt under FLSA. Full‑time schedule: 37.5 hours per week or more.

Job Summary

The CACREP‑accredited Counselor Education Program invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the academic year 2026‑2027. Candidates should hold an earned Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP‑accredited institution/program. ABD applicants may be considered with evidence of a scheduled doctoral defense occurring no later than May 2026, prior to an August 2026 appointment.

Applicants must also hold an active state counseling license, be eligible for Kentucky clinical counseling licensure, and be willing to pursue Kentucky licensure within one year. The position begins August 2026.

The Assistant Professor will teach courses in clinical mental health counseling, with a minimum of two years’ experience teaching at the college or university level and supervising clinical students or novice professionals. Candidates should have experience teaching across the eight core content areas of the CACREP curriculum and teaching in areas such as counseling theories, assessment and testing, diagnosis, treatment, and general clinical counseling practice.

The role requires developing and maintaining an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations, as well as service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. The University prioritizes responsible use of artificial intelligence and expects the candidate to demonstrate knowledge of AI relevant to the discipline or a willingness to pursue professional development in this area.

Job Duties
  • Maintain a workload consistent with the needs and priorities of the college and institution, teaching courses as assigned at the required times and locations to meet program and student needs. (Essential)
  • Utilize effective, innovative teaching methods and modalities for in‑person and online instruction, with multiple evaluation and assessment procedures to support student learning. (Essential)
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to curricular areas. (Essential)
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda. (Essential)
  • Stay current in the field by reading scholarly works and attending conferences, seminars, and faculty development activities. (Essential)
  • Advise students on program, departmental, college, and university requirements. (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP‑accredited institution/program.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising clinical students or novice professionals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of potential ability and interest in academic assignments, professional contributions, and leadership for the profession and the institution/program.
  • Strong identification with professional counselor identity and evidence supporting such.
  • Some experience designing and teaching online courses in both asynchronous and synchronous formats.
  • Experience using the Canvas learning management system.
  • Experience with CACREP accreditation and compliance, and the ability to assist in its management.
