Salary Range: $24.52/hr – $26.96/hr
ECE Instructional Assistant Stipend: $1.00 per hour

Working Calendar: 187 Days, 7 Hours per day

Exceptional Child Education (ECE) programs are designed to meet the needs of students whose approach to learning differs from that of their peers. The district is committed to providing high‑quality education for students with disabilities. Programs, techniques, methods, and materials are employed for individualized instruction. Students may include those with Moderate to Severe Disabilities (MSD), Mild Mental Disabilities (MMD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD), Autism (AUT), Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Learning Disabilities (LD), Social Communication, or combinations of these areas.

SCOPE

OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Recognizes that all responsibilities are fundamentally supportive. Assists in implementing each student’s individual education plan. Helps establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Displays willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours.
  • Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.
  • Physical ability and willingness to assist with students’ physical needs such as positioning, toileting, and lifting.
  • Willingness to attend district ECE in‑service professional development sessions.

If your highest education is a High School diploma or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. For assistance with studying for this assessment, use the KPA Study Guide and/or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. To schedule the KPA test with our Adult Education department, contact Adult Ed for additional instructions.
