Contract:
Short Term Contract.
The Certified EPA Asbestos Inspector provides professional asbestos inspection, sampling, documentation, and regulatory support services in advance of demolition and decommissioning activities s role supports compliance with EPA NESHAP, OSHA, and Kentucky Division for Air Quality requirements by identifying asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and presumed asbestos-containing materials (PACM), evaluating condition and friability, and issuing inspection reports suitable for regulatory review and demolition planning.
The inspector works independently and in coordination with Environmental, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, and Construction teams to ensure asbestos hazards are properly characterized, communicated, and managed prior to material disturbance.
- Perform comprehensive asbestos inspections of structures, systems, and components scheduled for demolition.
- Identify, classify, and document ACM and PACM in accordance with EPA AHERA and NESHAP standards.
- Collect bulk samples using approved methods and maintain strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Coordinate laboratory analysis through NVLAP-accredited asbestos laboratories.
- Evaluate material condition, friability, accessibility, and disturbance potential.
- Prepare formal asbestos inspection reports suitable for regulatory submittal and contractor use.
- Interface with project Environmental, IH, and Construction teams to support demolition planning and sequencing.
- Support determination of abatement vs. managed-in-place decisions.
- Verify abatement scope alignment with inspection findings, as requested.
- Maintain inspection records in accordance with federal, state, and project retention requirements.
- Support regulatory inquiries or audits related to asbestos compliance.
- EPA-accredited Asbestos Inspector certification (current).
- Minimum 5–10 years of professional experience performing asbestos inspections in industrial, commercial, or demolition environments.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of:
- EPA NESHAP (40 CFR 61, Subpart M)
- AHERA requirements
- OSHA asbestos standards (29 CFR / )
- Kentucky asbestos regulations
- Ability to work in active demolition and industrial environments.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance.
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and other required PPE.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Prior experience on federal facilities, military installations, or high-hazard industrial sites.
- Experience supporting demolition or decommissioning projects.
- Familiarity with asbestos abatement oversight and clearance coordination.
- Experience working within integrated EHS management systems.
- Ability to respond to urgent inspection requests driven by demolition schedules.
- Strong coordination skills with engineers, planners, and construction supervision.
