Senior Communication/Navigation Engineer – ARS is seeking an experienced senior communication/navigation engineer to provide technical expertise in avionics systems development, testing, and sustainment. The ideal candidate will evaluate and ensure compliance with technical requirements for navigation systems, voice communication systems, data link systems, and air data systems. This role requires deep knowledge of military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, and information security, combined with the ability to assess technical documentation for specification compliance and airworthiness.
Candidate must possess a Secret clearance and have a degree from an ABET‑accredited university program.
- Apply DoD, Air Force, and industry engineering principles to improve performance of weapon systems.
- Assist with technical requirements compliance for avionics development, testing, sustainment, and operations.
- Evaluate navigation systems, voice communication systems, Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) data link systems.
- Assess military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, and Information Protection Security (IPSec).
- Review Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)/Extensible Markup Language (XML) packaging of network commands and air data systems.
- Evaluate technical documents to determine compliance with specifications and airworthiness requirements.
- Summarize findings, recommend changes, and communicate results to program office leadership.
- Translate user requirements into weapon system requirements for design, development, and testing.
- Perform technical analyses of operational requirements and develop system concepts.
- Conduct trade‑off assessments of proposed designs and modifications.
- Provide rapid‑response engineering support for critical supportability problems.
- Develop technical documentation including evaluations, studies, reports, and acquisition strategies.
- Support technical reviews including System Requirements Reviews, Design Reviews, and Test Readiness Reviews.
- Evaluate engineering change proposals, modification proposals, and related documents.
- Assist with implementing Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) processes.
- Support Operational, Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) compliance.
- Participate in value stream mapping and process improvement activities.
- Support airworthiness certification processes using MIL‑HDBK‑516C criteria and maintain Critical Safety Item (CSI) lists.
- Conduct systems security engineering activities including anti‑tamper, cybersecurity, hardware/software assurance, and supply‑chain risk management.
- Perform threat and vulnerability analyses, risk assessments, and develop corrective actions for critical supportability issues.
- Support milestone reviews, design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR), and certification/accreditation packages.
- Develop and review technical documentation including ICDs, ORDs, CDDs, System Specifications, SEPs, and TEMPs.
- Evaluate contractor proposals, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and Contract Change Proposals (CCPs).
- Participate in value stream mapping and AFSO
21 performance improvement initiatives. - Conduct material solution analyses and support acquisition strategy development.
- Manage configuration management, data management, and risk management processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
