Grants Specialist III

Department: VPR-SPA Pre‑Award |

Employment Type:

Full Time |

Work Schedule:

Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Position Summary
Work in the central pre‑award or sponsored projects office, managing a portfolio of approximately 2,500 awards annually (totaling more than $441 million in FY21).

Key Responsibilities
  • Review grant awards for compliance with federal, state, sponsor rules, and UGA policies; sign on behalf of the University.
  • Manage awards from pre‑award stage through project close‑out, including re‑budgets, no‑cost extensions, and other post‑award changes.
  • Ensure compliance with agency guidelines, including animal and human subject use; debarment, drug‑free workplace, and other regulations.
  • Interpret award terms and conditions, agency philosophy, and relevant policies to assist faculty and staff with award administration.
  • Serve as a liaison between funding agencies and faculty, addressing complex award and modification questions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent) with a minimum of two years of professional experience.
  • Ability to independently manage a caseload in a deadline‑oriented environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional policies and procedures related to external funding, finance, and administration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with sponsored projects administration.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, deadline driven.
  • Risk assessment and decision‑making skills.
