- Learns to perform basic inspections consisting of weed identification for the nuisance weed program using criteria set by the Division of Environmental Services per state and federal regulations. Performs spraying services for the Noxious Weed Spraying Program using a commercial sprayer and spraying approved chemicals on areas deemed to contain harmful weeds in order to eradicate them.
- Learns to perform basic inspections for black fly and mosquito populations for Department of Agriculture pest abatement programs by identifying areas with large numbers and using fogger in those areas to diminish them.
- Assists agribusinesses with chemical container collection and recycling in relation to state and federal requirements administered by the Department of Agriculture. Collect unwanted chemical containers from businesses who have agreed to host a collection site and send to the proper recycling center approved through the Department.
- Completes operational reports for the pest programs administered by the Department. Maintains spraying equipment and vehicle in good working order.
- Good communication skills.
- Working knowledge of general computer skills.
- Ability to work and complete tasks independently.
- Valid driver’s license. Overnight stays may be required.
- Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
- Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or pesticide or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.

Probationary Period:
Initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
Typical working conditions will require travel to stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks and close contact with livestock animals such as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.
