General Job Description

This level II Shipping Operator is responsible for all operating functions as listed below. The operation of the Shipping Unit must be understood in total, with a focus on utilizing equipment to meet all the quality, productivity, and safety goals as outlined in our quality system. Manage the operators in your area to be efficient and safe. This includes contract personnel, crane operators, side loaders, and tow motor operators.

All work instructions and JSAs must be followed as outlined.

Essential Job Functions

The primary function of the Level II Shipping Operator is to coordinate all the functions of shipping on the shift. In order to achieve the above, the operator needs to coordinate to efficiently keep the flow of shipping and production at the highest level.

Other activities which the Shipping Operator performs:

Operate area cranes and tow motors as necessary to support Shipping.
Ensure customer packaging requirements are met for all loads.
Ensure the correct coils/sheets are loaded on the trucks in a proper manner.
Coordinate crane movement to ensure prompt service for production and shipments.
Ensure personnel follow the prescribed safety rules, JSA procedures and look for ways to improve procedures.
Routinely do JSOs on your contract personnel, tow motor, crane operator, and side loader ops. The emphasis will be on better training and safe operating practices.
Do housekeeping and maintenance jobs as assigned.
Enter and retrieve shipping data on the computer system as necessary.

Supplemental Job Functions

Other duties as assigned.
Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.

Minimum Education , Skills and Experience

Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED).

Physical Abilities Required

Mobility in plant.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc. while performing duties.
Frequently required to use hands for technical tasks.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Visual ability with or without correction.
Communication abilities.

Health and Safety

Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.

Follow Company safety rules.

Report absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.

Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:

Safety shoes
Safety glasses
Hearing protection
Hard hat
Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
- Respirators (requires employee to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations).
- Fire retardant clothing
- Acid PPE

Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.

Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.

Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations.

Maintain a clean and safe work area.
