Basic Job Functions
  • Assists in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Support engineering test activities (Machine setup, material changes, WIP movement)
  • Review process and equipment data on dashboards and determine corrective action as needed
  • Troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing process and equipment issues.
  • Performs, as directed, all necessary maintenance and repair of the equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must meet ONE of the following criteria to qualify:
    • Associates degree in technical discipline.
    • Two or more years’ machine or mechanic experience as a primary job function.
    • One year First Solar technical experience.
    • Six months experience as Associate EMT at First Solar and rating of “5” or higher in all relevant EMT proficiency categories.

  • Verifiable hands‑on troubleshooting/repair skills.
  • Self‑directed, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment issues on the manufacturing line.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve process issues on the manufacturing line.
  • Ability to deal with administrative as well as technical tasks.
  • Working knowledge of common Windows computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to identify recurring issues and develop/communicate improvement recommendations.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Solves day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
  • Performs the on-site service and repair of equipment.
  • Identifies and implements yield and product performance improvements.
  • Accomplishes daily assignments as scheduled and as directed;
    Work assignment will rotate between different buildings in a workweek
  • Develops methods to assign causes to yield excursions.
  • Sets up and maintains gauges.
  • Ensures all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan.
  • Responds to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control.
  • Executes planned process experiments, collects and analyzes data and reports experimental results.
  • Collects data relating to daily tool performance and associated product performance.
  • Transitions new equipment and processes through start-up, qualification, and implementation.
  • Provides training to production associates.
  • Develops and updates internal documentation including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
  • Interfaces with internal associates and supplier representatives, as required, to complete assigned projects.
  • Develops a complete understanding of area processes, equipment, and support systems.
  • Maintains effective communication with other members of the manufacturing team.
  • Disposition non-conforming product according to established criteria (NCP).
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensures waste materials are discarded in their designated containers.
  • Ensures hazardous waste containers stay closed except when adding or removing waste.
  • Ensures satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations.
  • Trained and certified to operate, maintain and troubleshoot multiple sophisticated electro mechanical manufacturing equipment.

Reporting Relationships
  • This position will not have direct reports.
Travel
  • Travel for initial onboarding training in other FS manufacturing facilities may be required.

Little to no travel required (70 degrees is required.

  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
