Scope of PositionThe Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and globally through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed toward achieving positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement, and reducing the length of hospitalization. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care.
PositionSummary
The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. They assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care of patients in accordance with the professional practice model.
Unit DescriptionThe James Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) delivers evidence‑based, high‑quality post‑operative and post‑procedural nursing care to oncology and surgical patients transitioning from anesthesia. The nurse provides specialized assessment, monitoring, and interventions to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery. The PACU nurse collaborates closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary care teams within a nationally recognized academic medical center.
Minimum Qualifications- 2‑year College Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing with a major in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program is preferred.
- Current Ohio license or interim permit required.
- 2 years of experience in a relevant care setting is preferred.
- Ongoing requirements:
Maintains current Ohio RN license, meets mandatory educational and health requirements, and demonstrates required computer skills.
- Manage and provide nursing care to patients and their families.
- Direct and supervise nursing care provided by other team members.
- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care of patients.
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery.

Schedule40 scheduled hours per week, varying shifts.
