VP, Chief Nursing Officer

Overview

The Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer (VP/CNO) has responsibility for the implementation of standards of nursing practice and delivery of patient care according to those standards. The VP/CNO or designee reviews and approves nursing policies and procedures and designs systems for the delivery of patient care including provision of adequate staffing. The VP/CNO collaborates with the governing body, medical staff, nursing staff and other hospital leaders in planning, promoting, and conducting patient-focused and nurse-sensitive performance-improvement activities in support of hospital initiatives.

The VP/CNO participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information systems in support of patient care needs. The VP/CNO has accountability for the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational and capital budgets for nursing and supports efficient utilization of clinical resources while meeting expectations for quality and safe patient care delivery. The VP/CNO is an exemplar for promoting a positive practice environment – honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.

• Lead the implementation of nursing practice standards and ensure delivery of high-quality patient care.
• Review and approve nursing policies and procedures; design systems to ensure adequate staffing and efficient care delivery.
• Collaborate with the governing body, medical staff, nursing staff, and other hospital leaders on patient-focused performance-improvement activities aligned with hospital initiatives.
• Evaluate, select, and integrate health care technology and information systems to support patient care needs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate operational and capital budgets for nursing; monitor resource utilization while maintaining quality and safety.
• Promote a positive practice environment and support nursing as a distinct discipline and a healing-focused culture.

• Licensed as an RN in Kentucky
• Master’s Degree in Nursing, or a Master's degree in Management with 5-10 additional years of nursing experience
• Ten years of experience in nursing; five years in healthcare management
• Professional certification as Nurse Executive
• Demonstrated success in systems work and collaboration of nursing services
