Registered Nurse (RN) in Telemetry

The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.

Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines. The RN is responsible for coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through various activities. This includes provision of nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments, as well as facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities. The RN will provide patient and family-centered education, care coordination, and individualized treatment planning as applicable.

The RN performs and documents a comprehensive assessment in accordance with scope of practice and hospital policies. They consider the patient's culture, age, and developmental level. The RN will implement patient care therapies and procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, professional guidelines, and patient culture. They explain procedures, treatments, and processes to the patient and family. The RN initiates action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort.

They recognize, respond to, and communicate changes in patient condition appropriately. The RN conducts and documents ongoing assessments, overseeing team members in the performance of activities regarding patient care. They monitor the accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care and identify educational needs of patients. The RN facilitates the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders in a timely manner, assuring performance of discharge teaching, and coordinating plans with relevant personnel.

They provide input into patient and nurse assignments in consideration of available staffing and patient acuity. The RN demonstrates active participation in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities. They promote a positive group dynamic and healing environment through words and actions. The RN assures excellence in accordance with accepted standards, evidence-based practice, current research, and a caring philosophy.

They actively participate in quality improvement activities and core measures, including patient satisfaction, patient falls, and documentation audits. The RN uses a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
