Optical Research Physicist

Job Description

Azimuth Corporation is seeking an Optical Research Physicist
, in support of the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, OH
. The ideal candidate will be a qualified research-grade postdoctoral candidate with experience in the areas of optics and photonics to join a vibrant and active research effort relating to the computational simulation and inverse design and optimization of optical metamaterials and metasurfaces.

Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Utilize a range of both open source and closed source software on multiple operating systems and computing platforms, including local workstations, high-performance computing centers, and cloud computing resources
• Evaluate new and existing software resources for applicability to research areas of interest
• Aid in the documentation and publication of internally developed software resources

• PhD:
  Physics, Optics, Materials Science & Engineering, or a closely related science or engineering field
• PhD entry level or 0-3 years of professional research experience post PhD.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required)

• Experience in computational materials simulation: the ideal candidate will have experience with photonics, optics, and/or computational electromagnetics modeling and simulation
• Experience developing AI/ML models with software packages such as scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Theano, and/or Keras
• Experience developing of cross-platform, open-source scientific software including the usage of distributed version controls systems, specifically git
• Proficiency in Python; desired experience with scientific python packages including Num Py, Sci Py, Matplotib, scikit, and pandas
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems (e.g. Ubuntu, Red Hat) including the use of a terminal environment and bash scripting
• Ability and desire to quickly learn new techniques, devise research plans, and develop expertise in technical topics related to photonics, optics, computational electromagnetics, and AI/ML
• Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by public presentations and peer-reviewed publications
• Excellent organization and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in advanced data analysis and visualization
• Ability to work independently and in a group setting

• Must be able to work in an office environment at a desk and computer.
• May travel ~10% to conferences, program reviews, industry meetings, or other collaborative events. Most or all travel would be CONUS.
