Interim Plumbing Inspector or Plumbing Inspector I/II

Under direction of the Plumbing Supervisor or Chief Plumbing Inspector, the role involves performing inspections, evaluations, investigations, and consultations in compliance with applicable program standards, state laws and rules, and local regulations. The focus is on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in line with Franklin County Public Health mission and values.

Duties
  • Inspects plumbing systems and medical gas systems for conformance with approved plans, specifications, and engineered designs using Ohio Building Codes, NFPA 99, and local regulations.
  • Reviews blueprints and engineering drawings, providing technical advice on Ohio Plumbing Code and local regulations.
  • Prepares detailed reports on daily plumbing activities and maintains related records (specific to Interim role).
  • Collaborates with other staff, sections, and departments to apply plumbing code knowledge to communicable disease investigations.
  • Engages with public officials, citizens, vendors, clients, patrons, and applicants to gather and process information.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Interim Plumbing Inspector

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years of practical and verifiable installation experience in commercial plumbing.
  • Interim Plumbing Inspector Certificate issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.
  • Completion of required examination modules by the Ohio Board of Building Standards for Plumbing.
  • Certified as an Ohio Board of Building Standards certified Interim Plumbing Inspector within one year of employment.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license; meets insurability requirements.

Plumbing Inspector I

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years of practical and verifiable installation experience in commercial plumbing.
  • Plumbing Inspector Certificate issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.
  • Plumbing Plans Examiner Certificate issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Inspector Certification preferred.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license; meets insurability requirements.

Plumbing Inspector II

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years of practical and verifiable installation experience in commercial plumbing.
  • Plumbing Inspector Certificate issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.
  • At least 3 years as a plumbing inspector I with an Ohio Board of Building Standards Plans Examiner Certification.
  • Plumbing Plans Examiner Certificate issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Inspector Certification.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license; meets insurability requirements.
HIRING WAGE RANGE
  • Interim Plumbing Inspector: $25.78–$29.65 per hour (non‑exempt).
  • Plumbing Inspector I: $28.38–$33.35 per hour (non‑exempt).
  • Plumbing Inspector II: $30.24–$35.53 per hour (non‑exempt).
